Tom Thumb raised $26, 000 for American Cancer Society.
What is Relay for Life? Relay is the number one fundraising event held by the American Cancer Society. It is a fun-filled overnight event in which members of the community come together to celebrate those who have triumphed against cancer, honor those who lost their battle to cancer, and encourage those battling the disease. The money raised is used to spread awareness and cancer education, research programs, and even to aid those with cancer.
Every spring, dedicated Tom Thumb associates form a team, put on their running/walking shoes and head over to the team campsite at the Old Spanish Trail in Crestview, FL. This is an event that our company has participated in for more than 10 years. Throughout the evening, teams have the opportunity to compete in contests and games to earn Spirit Points, hoping to have the highest-ranking team by the end of the event. Each year, our team operates a concession stand where we sell hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, and other delicious treats. We also sell hot coffee and cappuccino for those looking for an energy boost to make it through the night.
During the 18-hour Relay, Tom Thumb team members take turns walking around the track throughout the event. Why do we walk? Walking symbolizes our efforts to fight this dreadful disease. Although we each have personal reasons for participating, we all share a common goal, which is to find a cure.
This year, with proceeds from our Annual Golf Tournament, cookbook sales, concession stand sales, and the wonderful effort of all of our associates, Tom Thumb raised $26,000.00!!!! This was just the boost that we needed at the end of our long night. Thank you to all who participated and who continue to participate! We also would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those customers that bought our cookbooks. Your efforts contributed to our cause.
We are looking forward to our 2010 Relay For Life!
